Meaning & usage

In the examples, よし appears in the set pattern よしなさい, a firm instruction telling someone to stop doing something, built from the verb よす after a noun phrase; よしてもらいたい likewise means the speaker wants the action stopped. The phrase 知る由もなかった uses 由 to mean there was no way of knowing. Both uses are formal.
