の上では (no deha)

Meaning & usage

の上では marks the standard or framework used to judge something, meaning as far as that rule, theory or record is concerned. It is often used when the formal position may differ from reality, as in 書類の上では or 理論の上では. It follows a noun with の, most commonly abstract nouns like 法律, 規則, 計算 and 契約, and is common in formal explanations.
