なりなり (narinari)

Meaning & usage

Aなり Bなり presents two alternatives as representative examples, implying other options are also possible. It is used when suggesting actions or choices, often with a request or advice. Attach なり to each noun, as in 先生なり友達なり, or to the dictionary form of each verb, as in 散歩するなり買い物するなり. Any particle needed by the main verb, such as に with 聞く or で for means of contact, follows the second なり.
