願う・願います (u imasu)

Meaning & usage

願います is the polite form of 願う and is used to ask someone to do something in very formal situations like notices, announcements, and business messages. It attaches to ご or お plus a verbal noun, as in ご協力願います or お越し願います, and also follows a dictionary form verb plus ように, as in ご連絡いただけるよう願います. Because it is stiff and written style, it is not used with friends, and nouns in the pattern normally keep ご or お, which should not be dropped.
