Meaning & usage
ようでは expresses criticism that if a situation continues as it looks now, a bad result will follow. It attaches to the plain form of a verb, often ている as in 休んでいるようでは, or to a noun with の as in 準備不足のようでは. The following clause is almost always a negative judgment such as いけない, だめ, 困る or 勝てない, so it cannot be used for neutral or positive outcomes.
