Meaning & usage
ようだ expresses the speaker's impression that something seems or looks a certain way, based on indirect evidence. It follows a noun plus の, or plain-form verbs and adjectives, as in 雨のようだ and 強くなってきたようだ. It works in both casual and polite speech.
