自分・じぶん (jibun)

Meaning & usage

自分 refers to oneself, as opposed to other people. It works like a noun, so it can stand alone or take particles and の before another noun, as in 自分の and 自分自身. It also combines with で to mean doing something by oneself, as in 自分で.
