かな (kana)

Meaning & usage

かな adds a sense of wondering to the end of a sentence, used when thinking aloud about something uncertain. It follows plain forms of verbs, i-adjectives, nouns and na-adjectives, as well as past forms, volitional forms like しようかな, and questions ending in か or のか. It sounds casual and self directed, so it does not request an answer from the listener.
