はだ (hada)

Meaning & usage

The pattern marks what is being talked about with は, pronounced wa, and then states what it is with a noun or na-adjective plus だ, as in これはワインだ. It is used for basic identification and description meaning X is Y. In polite speech だ becomes です, and だ is not placed after an i-adjective or verb predicate.
