Meaning & usage
すぎる expresses that something goes beyond a suitable or desired limit, with a sense like too much or excessively. It follows the masu stem of verbs as in 食べすぎる, the stem of i-adjectives with い dropped as in 高すぎる, and the stem of na-adjectives as in しずかすぎる. Once attached, すぎる conjugates as a regular ru verb, so past and negative forms like すぎた and すぎない are possible.
