Meaning & usage
って is a casual spoken equivalent of と for marking quoted speech or thought, used to report what someone said, heard or announced with a meaning like 'that'. It follows a complete quoted clause in plain form, such as 明日休みだって or 来ないって, and comes before verbs like 言う, 聞く or 思う. It is common in conversation but too informal for polite writing, where と or という should be used instead.
