はが (haga)

Meaning & usage

In an Xは Yが sentence, Xは sets the topic being talked about and Yが marks the subject of the description. It is widely used to attribute a property or state to the topic, including adjectives, 好きだ and 嫌いだ, desire with 欲しい or たい, ability with できる or the potential form, and existence with ある or いる. X and Y are nouns followed by は and が, while the predicate keeps its normal plain or polite form with no extra change.
