より (yori)

Meaning & usage

The particle より marks the place or time where an action or state begins, meaning from, as in 駅より or 月曜日より. It attaches directly to a noun expressing time or place, with no change to the noun itself, and is followed by a predicate describing movement or a scheduled event. より in this use is formal and common in notices, announcements and business settings, while から is the neutral choice for everyday conversation.
