Meaning & usage
ほど expresses degree, extent, or approximation, meaning to the extent of or about. It follows plain form verbs as in 言うほど, nouns as in 旅ほど, and quantities as in 10分ほど. To describe an adjective, ほど comes before it, as in これほどひどい, often with a demonstrative or verb clause setting the standard. It is neutral in speech and writing, but keep the order correct and do not add な after a na-adjective before ほど.
