Meaning & usage
ように expresses purpose and means in order to or so that a desired result is achieved, often with requests, advice, warnings, or efforts to prevent something unwanted. It follows the dictionary form, the ない form, or the potential form of a verb, as in 間に合うように, 忘れないように, and 聞こえるように, and the main clause describes the action taken to achieve that goal. It is common in everyday instructions and cautions such as 気をつけて and 注意してください, and the purpose clause usually describes something not yet realized rather than a completed fact.
