Meaning & usage
あとで means later on or afterwards, and is used to delay an action to a later time or to show that one action follows another time or event. It can stand alone as an adverb, as in あとで電話します, or follow a noun with の, as in 仕事の後で, and a verb in the た form, as in 食べた後で. It is neutral in politeness, but note that the verb before 後で stays in the past form even when talking about the future.
