Meaning & usage
したがって means therefore or as a result, and introduces a logical conclusion that follows from what was stated before. It is a conjunction that stands alone at the start of a sentence, usually followed by a comma, and does not attach to a verb, noun or adjective. It sounds formal and written, so it is common in reports, announcements and academic explanations rather than casual speech where だから or なので is used.
