Meaning & usage
The particle で expresses a rate, showing how much something costs or measures for a stated unit, often translated as per or for. It follows a quantity expression with a counter or measure, as in 一枚で, 一リットルで, or 五個で, which is then followed by the price or amount. It is common in neutral descriptions of prices in shops and services, and the phrase before で is the unit amount rather than the total paid.
