一旦・いったん (ittan)

Meaning & usage

いったん marks a condition that, once it happens, leads to a stated result, as in いったん話したら or いったん始めると. It comes before a clause, typically one ending in たら, と, or ば, and the examples use it with verbs in the plain form. It can also mean doing something temporarily or for the time being.
