以来

Meaning & usage

以来 marks a past starting point and describes a state or action that has continued from then until now. It follows a time or event noun, as in クリスマス以来, or a verb in the past ta-form, as in ダイエットして以来. Set phrases like それ以来 and その時以来 are common for referring back to a previously mentioned event. It often pairs with ずっと to stress continuity.
