みせる (miseru)

Meaning & usage

〜てみせる expresses a speaker's firm resolve to carry out an action and make the result clear to others, often with a defiant or confident tone. It follows the te-form of a verb, as in 勝ってみせる or やり遂げてみせる, and みせる itself conjugates as an ichidan verb for tense and politeness. It differs from 〜てみる, which means to try something to see what happens, while 〜てみせる promises success.
