Meaning & usage
ところ marks a point or moment in time or situation. It follows verbs in plain form (dictionary form, ta-form, or ている form) and can indicate the moment something happens, as in 出てきたところを, or a point reached, as in 知り合うところまで. It also appears in set phrases like 笑うところ, referring to the funny part of something.
