Meaning & usage
まさか is an adverb placed before a phrase or sentence to express disbelief that something could really happen or be true. It often pairs with expressions like 夢にも思わなかった or a negative guess such as 〜だろう, giving a tone of 'surely not' or 'I never imagined'.
