Meaning & usage

さて is a sentence-initial interjection used to mark a shift to a new topic or stage, similar to saying "well," "now," or "by the way." It stands on its own at the start of a sentence, followed by a comma, and often signals a transition such as moving on in a talk, wrapping up, or raising a new question. It appears in both spoken and written contexts, including polite speech.
