Meaning & usage
ほど expresses a proportional relationship where an increase in one condition leads to an increase in another, meaning the more one thing happens, the more another happens. It often repeats the same word in a conditional form followed by the dictionary form plus ほど, such as VばVるほど, 早ければ早いほど, 静かなら静かなほど, and 子供なら子供ほど. The conditional part can also be omitted, leaving Vるほど with the same proportional meaning.
