Meaning & usage
甲斐がある expresses that past effort produced a worthwhile result, often translated as paid off or was worth it. It follows the past tense short form of a verb, as in 練習した甲斐がある or 待った甲斐があって, and is often continued with a clause describing the good outcome. It is used for positive results only, so it cannot describe wasted effort, and 甲斐がない gives the opposite meaning of not worth it.
