Meaning & usage
やる is a casual godan verb with two broad uses: doing an activity expressed as Nをやる, like playing, eating, drinking or running something, and giving something expressed as NにNをやる or doing a favor expressed as verb te form plus てやる. It conjugates as a regular godan verb, with forms like やります, やって, やれば and やってもいい. Because it sounds rough and looks down on the receiver, it is used toward inferiors, animals and plants, and あげる or する is preferred for superiors.
