ことは (kotoha)

Meaning & usage

ことは admits that something is true while setting up a contrast, meaning certainly or indeed, followed by が, けど or a similar contrastive ending. It follows the dictionary form of a verb or the plain form of an i-adjective, and the same predicate is usually repeated after は, as in 食べることは食べるが and 高いことは高いが. Verbs that describe a continuing state use ている on both sides, as in 知っていることは知っている.
