為（に）・ため（に） (ni tame ni)

Meaning & usage

為（に）expresses purpose or benefit, meaning 'for the sake of' or 'in order to'. After a verb it takes the plain form (見るために), and after a noun it takes の (老人のための). It can also refer to a reason already stated, as in このため ('for this reason').
