っぽい (ppoi)

Meaning & usage

っぽい adds the sense of -ish to a word, meaning something has the look, feel, or quality of that thing, or that a person is prone to an action. It attaches to nouns as in 子供っぽい, to the masu-stem of verbs as in 忘れっぽい, and to the stem of i-adjectives with い removed. As an i-adjective itself, it conjugates as っぽくない or っぽかった, and in conversation it often carries a critical or teasing tone.
