思われる (wareru)

Meaning & usage

思われる is the passive of 思う, used to say that something seems or appears a certain way, often to the speaker or to others. It follows a plain-form clause, or a noun plus と/に, as in アメリカ人と思われる. It is fairly neutral and common in both spoken and written Japanese.

   There does not seem to be any difference of meaning between the two constructions.
