Meaning & usage
思われる expresses an impression or general belief, meaning it seems that or it is thought that. It attaches to a complete plain form clause with と, as in 来ると思われる, and very often with ように, as in 知っているように思われる. Nouns and な-adjectives keep だ before と, so 先生だと思われる is required. The form sounds formal and objective, and is common in news and academic writing to avoid stating uncertain facts directly.
