Meaning & usage
以外 expresses exclusion, meaning apart from or with the exception of the thing or action named before it. It follows a noun, as in 英語以外, or the dictionary form of a verb, as in 食べる以外. It is neutral in register and common in both speech and writing, often followed by particles like は or に to fit the sentence structure.
