以外

Meaning & usage

以外 follows a noun or a phrase to mean that everything except that item is being talked about. It attaches directly after nouns like 日曜日, and after phrases such as 言葉 or the plain form plus という (ピアニストという以外). It marks the excluded case, so the rest of the sentence describes what happens in all other cases.
