ことになる (kotoninaru)

Meaning & usage

ことになる expresses that something turns out a certain way or amounts to a particular result as a logical consequence. It follows the dictionary form of a verb, including progressive ている forms such as だますことになる or 勉強していることになります, and なる conjugates for tense and politeness. It cannot follow an adjective or a phrase like そんなこと alone to mean become a situation.
