Meaning & usage
などと reports words, thoughts, or ideas as one example among others, giving a nuance like saying things such as that. It follows a complete plain style clause, as in 行くなどと or 静かだなどと, and often appears as などという before a noun or などとは before a negative predicate. It is commonly used with verbs like 言う, 思う, and 考える to distance the speaker from the quoted content.
