もの（だ） (mono da)

Meaning & usage

もの（だ）attaches to plain-form verbs and i-adjectives (and な-adjectives plus な) to express something that is naturally or generally true, or to state how things should be. It often appears in set phrases like というものではない and よく言ったものだ, and can carry a reflective tone in formal speech.
