にしては (nishiteha)

Meaning & usage

にしては attaches to a noun (or a plain-form clause) and means that, when something is judged against the expectation that comes with that noun, the result is surprising or different from what you would expect. It carries a nuance of comparison against a normal standard, as in being unusually sensible for a child.
