とかで (tokade)

Meaning & usage

とかで gives a vague or secondhand reason for a result, like saying with a cold or something or because he says he is busy. It attaches to a noun such as 風邪とかで or to a plain form clause such as 頭が痛いとかで or 来るとかで, followed by the outcome. It sounds casual and uncertain, so avoid it when the cause is definite or in formal writing where から or ので is clearer.
