Meaning & usage
Attaching とする to a verb's volitional form (しよう, 見せびらかそう) means the subject tries or attempts to do that action, often without stating whether it succeeds. In 言わんとする, the classical negative ん replaces ない, giving the sense of what someone is trying to say.
