ついでに (tsuideni)

Meaning & usage

ついでに means doing one thing while taking the chance of doing another, adding a second action onto a main one. It comes after a plain-form verb or a noun, and it can also stand alone between clauses to link two actions, as in the examples where an errand is tacked onto another task.

1. あなたが入いれるついでに私わたしにもコーヒーを入いれてください。

   While you are about it, please make a cup of coffee for me, too.

2. 父がついでに私を飛行場まで送ってくれることになっている。

   My father is dropping me off at the airport along the way.
