ついでに (tsuideni)

Meaning & usage

ついでに shows that a secondary action is done by taking the opportunity of a main outing or task, often translated as also or while you are at it. It follows nouns with の, as in 買い物のついでに, and verbs in the dictionary form or た form, as in 寄るついでに or 寄ったついでに, and it can also stand alone as an adverb. The main occasion must be stated or clear from context, and the ついでに action is understood as incidental rather than the main purpose.
