に (ni)

Meaning & usage

に marks the destination or direction of movement, corresponding to to or toward in English. It follows a place noun, as in 学校に, 東京に or ここに, and comes before movement verbs such as 行く, 来る, 帰る and 入る. It is neutral in politeness and used in both speech and writing. Do not confuse it with で, which marks where an action happens rather than where someone goes.
