Meaning & usage
を marks the place or route that someone or something moves through, along, or across, such as a road, bridge, park, or sky. It follows a noun for the path, as in 道を, 公園を, or 橋を, and pairs with a motion verb like 行きます, 歩きます, or わたります. Learners often expect に or で here, but に marks destination and で marks location of action, while path movement requires を.
