か (ka)

Meaning & usage

か turns a question into a noun clause meaning whether, what, where, and so on, used when reporting what someone knows, does not know, asks, or says. Add か to the plain form at the end of the question, such as 行くか, 高いか, 静かか, or 学生か, and keep question words like 何, どこ, or いつ inside when needed. Avoid adding ですか or ますか inside the clause, since the politeness belongs at the end of the whole sentence, as in あるか分かりません.
