か (ka)

Meaning & usage

The particle か turns a question into an embedded one, so it can attach to a question phrase inside a larger sentence, as in どこから来たのか分からなかった. It also appears in direct questions like どうしたの or どなたですか. It follows question words and phrases, with ですか after nouns in polite questions.
