そして (soshite)

Meaning & usage

そして is a conjunction meaning "and then" or "and". It links sentences or clauses, often listing items or events in sequence, and can also connect two full sentences. It stands alone at the start of the following clause rather than attaching to a word.

1. 北きたにはスコットランド、南みなみにイングランド、西にしにウェールズ、そして、さらに西にしには北きたアイルランド。

   In the north, there's Scotland; in the south, England; in the west, Wales; and further west, Northern Ireland.

   The car is kept in a garage, under cover and locked.
