Meaning & usage
The particle と marks doing something together with someone or interacting mutually with them, covering together with, in the capacity of a companion, and from in mutual contact like talking or meeting. It attaches directly to a noun to form Noun + と, as in 友だちと and 犬と, and appears before verbs like 行きます, 話す, or 食べました. It is neutral and common in everyday conversation, but it signals full joint action, so it differs from listing nouns or marking a one sided direction.
