Meaning & usage
いちばん expresses the superlative, meaning the most or best among a group, often with a scope like 日本で or 世界で. It is placed directly before an adjective or adverb, as in いちばん長い or いちばん早く. To modify a noun, keep the adjective between いちばん and the noun, as in いちばん高い木, and avoid placing いちばん directly before a verb or using いちばんの before a noun.
