Meaning & usage
に marks the place where someone or something exists, equivalent to in, at or on in English. It attaches directly to a place noun, as in 学校に or 家に, and is used with verbs of existence such as いる for people and animals and ある for things. It is different from で, which marks where an action takes place, so staying or existing calls for に.
